Jon Gordon many years ago - started a one word Challenge concept!
The quest to do something that really sticks in a life habit and just naturally helps you strive higher!
As Jon quotes:
“9 out of 10 people will fail with their resolutions.
50% of resolution makers will fail by the end of January.
But One Word sticks!
That’s why 13 years I ago I stopped making New Year’s resolutions and started picking One Word for the upcoming year. No resolutions, no goals… just One Word that gives meaning, mission, passion and purpose. One Word that will help me be my best.”
Of course whatever works for you personally is fantastic.
My one word for 2025 came to me yesterday and it’s funny how that happened.
I visit the Christmas shop at Disney Springs often to get my daughter a personalized ornament keepsake. The customer experience for the first time ever was horrible. How you treat people matters.
When you order a personalized ornament, there is a premium charge for each word. I wanted a first and middle name hyphenated. It symbolizes both my sister and my middle name. The challenge I think was that I was asking for "ONE WORD" that can be two words.
Rather than listening to my ask, the cast member was fixated on the fact that it would be a double charge for multiple names. I asked also to add in a premium carry bag, I needed something sturdy for airline travel.
After my order was put in, we went to see the epic Mufasa movie, and it was brilliant.
When Mufasa was over I went back to pick up my order and it was not quite right. Time was not on my side so I left it, it still looks nice. When they went to bag the ornament, they did not put it in the bag I asked for. So when I asked for what I ordered, she said I did not pay for it! Looking at my receipt I see the lady did not listen to my request and I paid for the bag, My point here is how you treat people is everything. Not only did they not listen, they also treated me like I was trying to cheat them out of a purchase bag option. It was really quite remarkable.
So how did I get to my one word! I had a choice... Be Unhappy about the experience or Be Happy and move about the day! The latter of the two is what I did. It was time to have fun and be a bit silly, I will share a few photos.
Mufasa was great, my daughter got a traditional Christmas piece with a story and I got to see an epic sunset!
A hint my one word relates to staying happy in the moments I am challenged.
