In a retirement community, a group of seniors gather for a valentines dance. Among them, old friends, new friends, husband and wives, share an evening forged through laughter, music and stories.
The music begins, a classic tune that resonates with their youth, echoing sweet nostalgia from the local musician playing (who is their age and sharing stories). Toes are tapping, heads are bopping and most are singing along.
When the song ends, one of them yells out do you know any Hank Snow? Johnny Cash? They love this❤️. Not an empty seat!
Have you ever had an elder tell you to slow down? Hang around them long enough and it’s a regular occurrence!
A slow song plays that they all know, a few couples step onto the dance floor! A remarkable thing happens; time seems to slow down. You hear almost every note and word in the song, as if life is in slow motion.
They laugh, twirl, and share glances that reflect friendship, love and joy!
The other fun fact is older people are shameless, and say just about anything that will make you fall off your chair. Even the ones who are shy and reserved. I sat beside two people who lost their spouse, both of them watched the dancing without virtually blinking. Then said, “ that is so beautiful…. It takes me back“
You see no one cares about what anyone thinks. Laughter fills the air, age is just a number, and the sheer joy of movement in the moment is what matters to them.
Slowing down, living in the moment, a shared love of music!
I hope you enjoyed! It was a great experience that was out of the norm for me, I truly enjoyed.
