I recently came across Robert Lufkin's book "LIES I TAUGHT IN MEDICAL SCHOOL" Largely it speaks to Conventional Medicine and How It Is Making You Sicker. A dive to explore what you can do to save your own life? A look at how metabolic dysfunction is the root of chronic diseases, and you alone are equipt to make prevention choices for lifestyle before you need medicine, if you arm yourself with education. Disclaimer, always speak to your medical professional prior to making any major lifestyle changes in the event any suggestions conflict with a present illness or plan. Like anything some content in this book will resonate and some will not. If you are looking to understand the importance your lifestyle and food choices affect your metabolic health and what that means surrounding your best defence against chronic illness, it is a good read from a lifelong MD's perspective. Some content is controversial.
A few brief highlights in the last chapter "The Plan"
Suggestions to consider: When to Eat
The first nutrition suggestion in our plan doesn’t require changing what you
eat or even how much you eat. But this first
nutrition tip will make you healthier independent of what or how much
you eat. Just change when you eat. That’s correct: If you just narrow the
time during the day when you eat (rather than continuously grazing), you
will be healthier.
Food really is the new medicine. Sometimes, however, the best, most
nourishing food you can give your body . . . is none.
Before the Agricultural Revolution, when widespread farming led to
the storage and the nearly constant availability of foods for snacking, our
hunter-gatherer ancestors likely existed with an intermittent feeding pattern.
Suggestions to consider: What to Eat
Think about what you are eating: What are the ingredients? Will they harm my health? Do you have food allergies or intolerances? Avoid foods that will harm you and eat foods that heal you. It’s that simple. What foods will harm you? Processed foods (which is the polite name) or what they really are: junk foods. You’ve heard of Big Pharma. Well, this is Big Food. Neither have your health as their number one priority. Big Food presents you with an illusion of choice. There appear to be hundreds of brands from which to choose. In truth, they are all controlled by a small handful of large corporations. None of them have your health as their priority.
Suggestions to consider: How Much to Eat
The short answer here is: as much as you want. What will change is how much you want. If you follow the other suggestions and limit your feeding window as well as avoid the refined carbs, seed oils, and grains that comprise many processed and junk foods, you will likely be in ketosis. This has the interesting effect of controlling your appetite. To put it another way, without overstimulating your appetite with refined carbs, your appetite will be normal. You may be wondering about diet drinks. Even though they are marketed as low sugar or low calorie, they still stimulate insulin, which is the main driver of fat storage and obesity rather than calories alone. So, no, diet drinks do not help with weight control and are not a healthy choice. Diet drinks are just one of many processed and junk foods—and these foods are the enemy.
I hope you have a wonderful day,
