Hello there and happy Monday, today I wanted to bring some additional awareness surrounding Alzheimer's Disease and Metabolic Conditions. More and more research is highlighting how we live today, will help our tomorrow self. First a look at what Alzheimer's is and what a Metabolic Condition is:
What is Alzheimer’s Disease?
Alzheimer's disease is a kind of brain problem that makes it hard for people to remember things and think clearly. It usually gets worse over time. People with Alzheimer’s can forget names, faces, and even how to do everyday tasks.
What are Metabolic Conditions?
Metabolic conditions are problems that affect how our bodies use food for energy. This can include conditions like diabetes, obesity, or high cholesterol. If our bodies don't use food correctly, it can lead to many health issues.
How are Alzheimer’s and Metabolic Conditions Connected?
1. Brain Health: Scientists are learning that metabolic problems can affect brain health. For example, diabetes can increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s.
2. Insulin Resistance: In diabetes, the body has trouble using insulin, which helps turn food into energy. This insulin resistance can lead to changes in the brain that might cause Alzheimer’s.
3. Diet Matters: Eating healthy foods can help both brain health and metabolic conditions. Foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats are good for us!
4. Inflammation: Metabolic conditions can cause inflammation in the body. This inflammation can hurt brain cells and lead to memory problems.
5. Exercise: Moving our bodies through exercise helps both brain health and metabolism. It can improve our memory and help keep our blood sugar in check.
6. Weight Control: Keeping a healthy weight can help lower the risk of both metabolic conditions and Alzheimer’s disease.
Why is This Important?
Understanding how Alzheimer’s and metabolic conditions are related helps us find better ways to prevent and treat these issues. By eating well, exercising, and keeping a close eye on our health, we can help our brains stay healthy!
Alzheimer’s and metabolic conditions like Diabetes are increasing at an alarming rate in Canada and the United States. We are all always learning more everyday, just know when you live a life always trying to improve or learn you are helping your future self and your loved ones.
