Hello and happy Thursday, I write this post today after talking to an amazing lady at the airport named “Ellen”! In my last blog I spoke of how difficult the holidays can be for some and recommended a great read Solve for Happy!
It was quite amazing to hear Ellen’s story, she lost her husband due to a stroke this time last year. She talked to me about how the last year of healing has been, tough, tough, tough!
With the help of her family and wonderful neighbours, she feels way more confident on her own and is looking forward to the holiday season. Together with family, she will hit the seas.
(On a side note here is a life coincidence, I noticed she was wearing Tree of Life earrings, I am literally just reading a Darwin book that illustrates his Tree of Life initial sketches (branching diagrams) linkages between man and nature in his theory of evolution.)
What Ellen shared I though was very insightful. She told me her biggest blessings and what gave her the motivation and belief in herself to find her best life:
Deep family connections.
A great community. She feels safe and supported.
When her husband became unable to talk or communicate his wishes, she asked him if he loved her and he nodded yes. The chance to say goodbye was a tremendous sense of comfort.
In the time following his death the book Widow to Widow was a guide to helping with a go forward plan.
Thank you Ellen for sharing your story with me and this is the way we help each other.
Another recommended reader’s quote on Widow to Widow:
“My mother thought this was the most helpful book she received after my Dad died. She and I have recommended or bought it for others. She felt like she learned a lot and that the writer understood her needs.”
